Affiliate marketing is related to freelancing in that it is one method by which a person gets paid for content. Affiliate marketing is a good way to earn passive income for influencers because their sales links remain accessible and active even when they are not present.
Recently, I saw a video telling the world that Samsung is offering an affiliate programme for their products. Samsung is one of the big brands that sell electronic gadgets as we know it. Africa is a big market for Samsung yet it does not include Africa in the affiliate programme. Reasons for this vary and they include some or all of the following:
- Limited market size: Africa has a population of over 1.3 billion people, but the purchasing power of the average African consumer is relatively low compared to other regions of the world. This means that the potential revenue generated by affiliate programs in Africa may be lower than other regions, making it less attractive for companies to invest in.
- Infrastructural challenges: Many parts of Africa still lack adequate internet connectivity and technological infrastructure, which can make it difficult for affiliate programs to operate effectively. This can include challenges with payment processing, tracking, and communication.
- Regulatory hurdles: Some African countries have complex regulatory frameworks that can make it difficult for foreign companies to operate within their borders. This can include restrictions on cross-border payments, data privacy laws, and other legal requirements that can make it difficult to establish and maintain affiliate programs in Africa.
- Lack of awareness: Many companies simply may not be aware of the potential opportunities that exist in Africa, or may not have the resources or expertise to effectively target African consumers through affiliate programs.
Overall, while there may be some challenges to investing in affiliate programs in Africa, there are also significant opportunities for companies that are willing to take the time and effort to understand the market and its unique challenges. As the African economy and online landscape continue to evolve, it is likely that we will see more companies exploring these opportunities in the years to come.
Therefore, it should not shock you when you country is not allowed to participate in affiliate programes for big companies that you believe could make you good money. Do not be discouraged but move on and explore other possibilities with other (smaller) companies.
