Did you know that African business have moved 45% of their workload to the cloud? This statistics was shared by MTN Global Sourcing and Supply Chain on 21st October 2024. Surely if you read this article anytime later, the statistics will have changed to show even a higher percentage.
What does that mean for companies which are your potential employers?
- They are going remote. According to MTN Global Sourcing and Supply Chain, the 45% move of workload to the clouds is at par with North America and China. The rest of the world is probably ahead and therefore positioning yourself as an online freelancer puts you at an advantage because you are already on the cloud. You are the closest supplier of services to about 45% of their operation.
- They have found online services to be cost effective. That means that more online freelancers are needed.
- The pressure to migrate is mounting for novice companies; they are struggling to adopt the modern ways. Their learning curve needs a boost. They need help and you are already there to help.
- You have a chance to prove yourself and stand out from chancers. You have a chance to present yourself with videos and other content that showcases your expertise.
- They shall need African freelancers. There is that special quality that you from African can deliver. Never mind your accent or ethnicity; you already have an advantage that can put you ahead of your competition.
The call
Take up the challenge and start reaching out to potential clients online. There are a number of options for you to take. Set a target of reaching out to as much people as you can at any given time. The first three are digital and online initiatives and last one is still digital but offline.
- Take advantage of social media and market your services there.
- Join a freelancing marketplace like fiverr, upwork, freelancer, etc. and create gigs for your services.
- Get listed in this blog as a freelancer. As it get popular, you also grow with it.

- Talk to your acquaintances about your service. Share links of your gigs through WhatsApp and other social media platforms that your acquaintances use. It could be friends, relatives, church mates, etc.
