Freelancing is by far the simplest way to get started in your online money making career because it is open and works on a free market. You require very little capital, it’s got very low risk and works with equipment you probably already have, you can turn gigs and side jobs into a successful business career. Having said that, I want to bring the following points to your attention:
- As much as it is open even to school children, this is not a reason to leave school for. School is not to be replaced by anything. Even billionaire kids go to school. There is no way you want to quit school because of freelancing.
- It is good as a side hustle. I mean that you don’t have to quit your day job or stop all other streams of income because you have discovered freelancing. Freelancing can be a good source of income but it has the instability side that doesn’t align well with the demands for daily living.
- It is recommended for a stopgap period while searching for a job or for a stable source of income. If you have completed your tertiary and still waiting to either further your studies or search for a job or you have lost your job and still searching; then freelancing is worth considering.
The points given above do not erase the fact that freelancing can be real good and paying as much as or even higher than your day job. You surely will be in a position to decide whether to jump off and go full time freelancing when you have made enough savings to keep your life moving even when you don’t have clients on your queue.
I hope to get back to this post to add indicators to look for in deciding to go freelancing full time.
